1. Definition & Executive Standard of API 5L X65
API Spec 5L is the international standard for line pipes, specifying manufacturing, dimensions, mechanical properties, testing and acceptance rules for seamless, longitudinal welded and spiral welded steel pipes used for oil and gas transportation.X65 refers to the strength grade: minimum yield strength 65ksi, equal to 448MPa.
Common versions: API Spec 5L 45th & 46th Edition.Two standard levels: PSL1 and PSL2.
- PSL1: For general service with basic inspection requirements.
- PSL2: More stringent requirements with mandatory impact test, strict chemical composition control, suitable for low-temperature and trunk line projects. It can be supplied with HIC / SSC certification to meet NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service.
