BOSS SW

Product

BOSS SW

Produet Description

Socket boss is a type of fitting specifically designed to create branch connections on socket type piping systems (such as cast iron pipes, PVC pipes, CPVC pipes, certain ABS pipes, etc.) without cutting off the main pipe.
It consists of two main parts:
Boss body: a short pipe joint with standard threads (usually NPT or BSPT).
Saddle/Base: A semi-circular or saddle shaped component designed to closely fit the outer diameter of the main pipeline.
The convex body is firmly fixed on the saddle by welding, bonding (solvent welding) or mechanical means (such as clamps)

Features

Main features and advantages
Easy installation: No need for special large equipment (such as hot melt welding machines), especially suitable for narrow spaces or renovation of already installed pipeline systems.
Economically efficient: saves time and labor costs for complex processes such as cutting off pipelines, installing tees, and reconnecting. Avoiding greater losses caused by water/gas outages.
Reduce leakage risk: Compared to cutting and welding on old or brittle pipelines (such as cast iron), drilling and installing protrusions have less disturbance to the main pipeline structure, reducing stress concentration and leakage points.
Flexible application: Branch points can be added at almost any position of the pipeline (avoiding stress zones such as welds and bends).
Suitable for various pipeline materials: widely used for:
Cast iron pipe (CI)
Rigid polyvinyl chloride pipe (PVC)
Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipe (CPVC)
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Pipe
Polyethylene pipe (PE – specific type)
Fiberglass tube (FRP – specific type)
Multiple connection methods: Depending on the material of the pipeline and the type of protrusion, the fixing methods include:
Mechanical clamp type: The most common type is sealed with stainless steel clamps and bolts (used for cast iron, PVC, CPVC, etc.).
Hot melt welding type: mainly used for PE pipes, the saddle is fused with the main pipeline through hot melt welding.
Solvent welding type: mainly used for PVC and CPVC pipes, bonded with special adhesive.
Electric fusion welding type: mainly used for PE pipes, with built-in resistance wire for heating and fusion.
