Socket boss is a type of fitting specifically designed to create branch connections on socket type piping systems (such as cast iron pipes, PVC pipes, CPVC pipes, certain ABS pipes, etc.) without cutting off the main pipe.
It consists of two main parts:
Boss body: a short pipe joint with standard threads (usually NPT or BSPT).
Saddle/Base: A semi-circular or saddle shaped component designed to closely fit the outer diameter of the main pipeline.
The convex body is firmly fixed on the saddle by welding, bonding (solvent welding) or mechanical means (such as clamps)
